Professional linen-backing of vintage posters

Back In The Day Collectibles has successfully used Jim Wood for linen-backing of vintage movie posters and is pleased to be in association with Jim for archival poster services. Jim has been in the business for about 14 years. The linen-backed three-sheet of "Bridge Over the River Kwai" is a recent example of his work. He can linen-back posters as big as movie six-sheets, which measure 81" x 81". His base rate for a movie one-sheet (27" x 41"), assuming only minor restoration, is $95.00. Please contact Jim directly at (301) 248-6290. He is based in Maryland. Below is a general description of Jim's linen-backing process.
Linen-backing is a preservative process for vintage paper posters such as movie art. Posters are first cleaned in water and a minor amount of chemicals. Next fold lines and minor defects in the poster are smoothed out. Then the poster is adhered to acid-free paper using archival glue. Finally, the poster and acid-free paper are adhered to a canvas backing. The process is reversible meaning that the poster can be removed from its backing without damaging its condition (please let a professional do this!) The process also preserves the poster by preventing fold separations from opening up and by de-aciding the poster, which prevents the paper from deteriorating and yellowing. The end result is a wonderfully vibrant item of art that is suitable for framing.
