One sheets are the standard size for movie posters in North America and measure 27" x 41". Pre-1985 posters are usually folded. Linen-backing is a preservative process for vintage paper posters such as movie art. Posters are first cleaned in water and a minor amount of chemicals. Next fold lines and minor defects in the poster are smoothed out. Then the poster is adhered to acid-free paper using archival glue. Finally, the poster and acid-free paper are adhered to a canvas backing. The process is reversible meaning that the poster can be removed from its backing without damaging its condition (please let a professional do this!) The process also preserves the poster by preventing fold separations from opening up and by de-aciding the poster, which prevents the paper from deteriorating and yellowing. The end result is a wonderfully vibrant item of art that is suitable for framing.
