Empire Strikes Back 1980 original 1-sheet linen Style B

A linen-backed one-sheet original poster Style B from the 1980 film "The Empire Strikes Back" (now known as "Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back"). Harrison Ford (as Han Solo), Carrie Fisher (as Princess Leia), Billy Dee Williams, Anthony Daniels ("as C-3PO"), David Prowse ("as Darth Vader"), Kenny Baker ("as R2-D2"), Peter Mayhew ("as Chewbacca") and Frank Oz (co-creator of the "Sesame Street" and "Muppet" characters, and also the voice of Yoda from the "Star Wars" series of movies; "as Yoda"), and Alec Guinness (as Obi-Wan Kenobi).

One sheets are the standard size for movie posters in North America and measure 27" x 41". Pre-1985 posters are usually folded. Linen-backing is a preservative process for vintage paper posters such as movie art. Posters are first cleaned in water and a minor amount of chemicals. Next fold lines and minor defects in the poster are smoothed out. Then the poster is adhered to acid-free paper using archival glue. Finally, the poster and acid-free paper are adhered to a canvas backing. The process is reversible meaning that the poster can be removed from its backing without damaging its condition (please let a professional do this!) The process also preserves the poster by preventing fold separations from opening up and by de-aciding the poster, which prevents the paper from deteriorating and yellowing. The end result is a wonderfully vibrant item of art that is suitable for framing.

As part of the linen-backing of this poster, there has been some touch-up on the background part of the poster and the fold lines, but not on the image. As part of the touch-up, the signature of the artist's name has been covered. Poster otherwise shows very well.
